AI search · practical guide
What AI-search visibility really means for a business.
There is no switch that makes ChatGPT, Google AI Mode or another AI tool recommend a business. The useful work is making your business clear, credible and easy to verify wherever people and search systems look.
Start with the right expectation
No adviser can guarantee an AI recommendation, and there is no special ‘AI search’ tag that forces a result. AI-assisted search draws on its own systems and, in many cases, the wider web and search indexes.
Google’s own guidance is clear that the foundations still matter: crawlable pages, useful original content, a good page experience and normal search best practice.
Make the business easy to understand
A visitor should be able to answer four questions quickly: what do you do, who is it for, where do you work and why should someone trust you? AI systems benefit from the same clarity.
Give each significant service a focused page. Use the language customers use, explain the problem it solves and include genuine proof rather than broad marketing claims.
Create evidence, not just claims
A service page can say you are experienced. Stronger evidence shows how you work: useful examples, clear processes, named expertise where appropriate, testimonials with permission and real answers to difficult customer questions.
Consistent business details, reputable third-party listings and relevant mentions can also help people verify that a business is real and credible.
Keep the technical basics sound
Search systems need to be able to reach, render and index the pages you care about. That means clear titles, useful headings, internal links, a sitemap, fast mobile pages and no accidental indexing blocks.
Structured data can help machines interpret key facts, but it cannot substitute for good content or earn a recommendation by itself.
Measure what actually changes
Track search impressions, visits, enquiry conversions and the questions people use before contacting you. A new site needs time for search engines to crawl, process and test its pages, so judge progress over months rather than days.
Avoid spending heavily on ‘GEO hacks’. Invest first in content and proof a real prospect would find useful; it serves both ordinary search and AI-assisted discovery.
